2024 - A Year to Remember
From Pie in the Sky to a vibrant community of home cooks
A year ago, Watermelon Pie was still just a dream. With grant funds and lots of support from the amazing entrepreneurial community in Maine, Watermelon Pie is now a growing community of home cooks and food businesses, passionate about sharing their recipes and cooking journeys.
Dear friends and supporters of Watermelon Pie,
As we whisk our way into 2025, we’re pausing to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve had together in 2024. From our first grant in January to launching our community November and everything in between, it has been quite a ride.
Prepping Watermelon Pie
January: We kicked off 2024 with a bang, receiving our first grant from the Maine Technology Institute—a moment that set the stage for big dreams.
Spring: We participated in the Top Gun accelerator program, built and launched our first prototype in May, welcoming home cooks to test and shape our vision.
Summer: Your feedback inspired us! We gathered insights from our first group of users, established a dedicated technical team, and designed a new version of Watermelon Pie to better serve our growing community.
Fall: We participated in the FoodTech accelerator, further refining our business model and strategic vision, and allowing us to begin partnering with food businesses with recipes to share.
November: The new version of Watermelon Pie went live! We doubled our recipes and users before the year ended, bringing more home cooks and food lovers together than ever before.
December: We were honored to be featured in the Bangor Daily News on December 26, shining a light on the magic of sharing recipes and connecting through food. Plus, thanks to you, we donated 93 meals to Preble Street—one for every recipe added in December. ❤️
And what’s next?
Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to continue building a space that inspires and connects home cooks. We will continue to gather feedback, expand the tools we offer and grow our community in 2025.
